Grade 8 & 9 are following a course of studies for Cambridge iGCSE English Literature Component Description Assessment Weighting Set Text Poetry Short Stories– 10 Stories from the CIE Anthology. 15 Selected poems by Gillian Clarke. Final Exam- Paper 1 Externally examined. 50% A View From The Bridge by Arthur Miller Final Exam – Paper 2 25% Coursework Two word assignments. Of Mice & Men by John Steinbeck Externally Moderated x

IGCSE English Literature and 2nd Language Introduction
Grade 8 & 9 are following a course of studies for Cambridge iGCSE English 2nd Language Component Description Assessment Weighting Written Paper A final exam paper with a series of questions. Final Exam- Paper 1 Externally examined. 70% Speaking Test A 10 minute conversation with an examiner-set topic. Externally Moderated 15% Listening Test A 30 minute exam with various audio clips and questions that test a students English competence. Exam Paper x

Component Description Assessment Semester 1 Novel Study The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins A study of the novel which focuses on Foreshadowing as a literary device and the development of Katniss Everdeen's character. word assignment & end of semester exam question. Poetry ‘Toolbox’ Poems – A series of poems designed to introduce students to the devices and techniques needed for the successful analysis of poetry. A ‘empathy’ response to Hesperus plus other work. Semester 2 Set Text Study Macbeth – William Shakespeare A study of the play which focuses on Lady Macbeth. A word assignment that discusses Lady Macbeth’s character and EoS exam question. Contemporary Poetry – A series of contemporary poems which have been set for past GCSE exams. End of Semester exam. x

Component Description Assessment Semester 1 Novel Study Of Mice & Men - John Steinbeck. A study of the novel which focuses on Foreshadowing as a literary device and the ‘moral’ questions the novel raises. word coursework assignment. Set Text Study Short Story Study - The first 5 of the 10 short stories set by CIE for the English Literature Exam. Practice Exam Questions and EoS Exam. Poetry The first 10 of the 15 poems by Gillian Clarke set for the exam. Practice Exam Questions, EoS and Final Exam. Semester 2 A View From The Bridge – Arthur Miller, with a focus on the character of Eddie Carbone. word coursework assignment & final exam. Short Story Study - The final 5 of the 10 short stories set by CIE for the English Literature Exam. Practice Exam Questions & Final Exam. The final 5 of the 15 poems by Gillian Clarke set for the exam. Practice Exam Questions and Final Exam. x

IGCSE English 2nd Language Grade 8 & 9 Course Outline
Component Description Assessment Semester 1 & 2 The Written Exam Paper A study of a past paper to introduce students to questions types and styles and practice answering the questions. End of semester exam questions. Listening Exam A guided journey through a Listening Exam Paper to introduce students to questions types and styles and practice answering the questions. Listening Exam Test. Speaking Exam Grade 8 will be given the opportunity to take part in a variety of speaking tasks. Grade 9 tasks will focus much more closely on the exam questions in preparation for the End of semester exam. Grade 8 – Informal assessment. Grade 9 – Formal speaking exam prior to the EoS exam in January. Writing Project In Semester 2, Grade 8 students will be given the opportunity to write at length by creating their own SF story. This project is designed to improve students general writing skills. It also introduces them to the short story format they will study next year. A word story about aliens or alien invasion. x
