(Private colleges are not Cegeps)
What are Cegeps? College d’enseignement general et professional (Private colleges are not Cegeps) CEGEPs offer two different kinds of programs of study: Two-year general academic programs in the sciences, social sciences or arts, that prepare you to go on to University Three-year specific career training technology programs. You can also apply to University after.
13
3-year Bachelor’s Master’s and PhD (2 to 4+ years) SSD: Secondary / High School Diploma SSVD: Secondary / High School Vocational Diploma DEC: Diploma of College Studies DEP/ DVS: Diplôme d’étude professionnel/Diploma of Vocational Studies
14
Who Can Apply For CEGEP? If you are in Sec 5 and are registered for, and passing all the required courses to get a high school diploma, then you are eligible to apply for Cegep. Cegeps will decide admission based on: Sec 4 final marks (MELS transcript) Sec 5 average of term 1 & 2 All courses required for graduation are included in the overall average. Some Cegeps use all courses taken in Sec 4 & 5. Prerequisites vary for different programs
15
Must have a passing grade Term 1 & 2
English and French Must have a passing grade Term 1 & 2
16
Will Your Child Get IN ?? Unfortunately we get asked this question all the time and we cannot give you an answer. Why? It depends on how many students apply to that program and what their averages are. Cut-off averages: Range from 65% to mid to high 80%s depending on program AND Cegep. Important to apply strategically, especially if you are applying to a competitive program and/or your marks are borderline for that program.
17
YOU MUST BE STRATEGIC IN YOUR CHOICES Pick a program that will allow you to get ACCEPTED to Cegep and work your way up to the program you wish to be in, if you do not have the marks and/or prerequisites.
18
Frequent Questions
19
What program do I apply to?
What college should I apply to? How will I get to college everyday? Where do I live and where is the college and can I realistically get there for an 8am class?

SRAM COLLEGES HAVE A DIFFERENT SYSTEM Vanier, John Abbott, Champlain Lennoxville, French CEGEPS The ROUND System There are 3 consecutive rounds in this system You must choose a single program in a single cegep. If you are refused: you can take part in round 2 by making a new choice out of the remaining spaces. You will not have to pay again. Available Spaces: Round 1 – the maximum number of spaces is open to applicants Round 2 – Since spaces were filled during Round 1, there are fewer spaces available Round 3- Remaining spaces are available. Table of Available Spaces will be published for Rounds 2 and 3 indicating what programs still have space at the different cegeps.
