6. Components of a successful Faculty-Led Program
Counts towards major/degree requirements
Maximum use of location, on-site resources, and connections with local communities
Recruiting by faculty director and advisors
Availability of courses taught in English or in host language for students with fluency
Administrative support at host site
Affordable program cost

7. What is a Global Seminar?
CU-Boulder faculty teaching students abroad
Generally 3 credits, 3 weeks
Usually offered in the summer
Average program size = 10 students
Course is approved by department and/or college

8. Proposing a Global Seminar for 2019
Discuss ideas with home department
Consult with Education Abroad GS team
Submit proposal to Education Abroad anytime before March 1, 2018
Role of the Education Abroad Committee
Course approval process in department/college

9. Global Seminars supported by the Tang Endowment
For faculty members interested in teaching a class in China (or China and neighboring countries)
CAS currently accepting applications for summer 2019 and beyond. For more Information:
Application deadline to CAS is November 13, 2017.

10. New Model: Global Intensives
Course is mostly taught in Boulder during a semester or summer term
Includes a day international experience
Approved by department and/or college
Faculty salary covered by tuition
Students can use financial aid to cover international component
Usually includes group flight

11. Offering a Global Intensive
Semesters prior:
Discuss ideas w/ department & EA
Secure course approval (if new course)
Set up international logistics with EA
Recruit & select students
Global Intensive term:
Teach course on campus
Run pre departure orientation with EA
Go abroad!

12. Southeast Asia Course Development Grant Funding
For faculty members interested in developing curricula for new or revised courses about SEA, including Global Seminars or Global Intensives.
