To understand the differences between auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners
To identify your own preferred style of learning
To identify study strategies for your preferred learning style

3. Knowing About Your Learning Style Helps You to:
Learn more effectively
Be more productive
Increase achievement
Be more creative
Improve problem solving
Make better decisions

4. What are Learning Styles?
Information enters your brain in three main ways: sight, hearing, and touch.
To learn, we depend on our senses to process the information around us.

5. Three Types of Learners
Visual Learner:
Learn by sight
Auditory Learner:
Learn by hearing
Tactile Learner (Kinesthetic):
Learn by touch

6. Visual
Prefer to see information in a visual format, such as pictures, cartoons, diagrams, demonstrations, etc.
Often use their imaginations to visualize the words they hear to “see” the information.
Benefit from using charts, maps, notes, flashcards when studying

7. Auditory Prefer to hear information spoken as opposed to reading it
Depend on hearing and speaking as main way of learning
Excellent listeners, can easily retain information that is being spoken to them
Benefit from lectures, discussions, reading aloud, etc.

8. Tactile / Kinesthetic
Prefer touch as their primary mode for taking in information
Learn best through labs, manipulatives, role playing, etc.

In thinking about your classes, what do you like most?

Working in groups?
Lectures?
Hands-on activities?
