What does DNA have to do with PROTEINS?
GENES PROTEINS CHROMOSOMES NUCLEUS What does DNA have to do with PROTEINS?
2
Inside the Nucleus Inside the nucleus of a cell there are chromosomes
Chromosomes are wound up threadlike structures made of DNA. They contain genetic information – these are the instructions that make you! echalk

Function of DNA Inside the nucleus, there are structures called chromosomes Chromosomes are made up of genes Genes are made up of DNA Each individual’s DNA is unique Genes are passed on from parents to offspring DNA carries instructions to make PROTEINS We are basically made up of proteins (hair, red blood cells, hormones) Video: 2:43

A damaged gene is said to be mutated and is caused by a mutation.
Damaged Genes Each gene has a function (job) and can be inherited from our parents. Normal GENE Makes Protein Damaged GENE makes the WRONG protein / makes a DAMAGED protein that doesn’t work A damaged gene is said to be mutated and is caused by a mutation. Video: 1st 14 minutes

Tasks Use the diagrams below to draw what DNA, genes and chromosomes are and where you find them.
