1 vacDM: labelling management; synchronisation between vacDB and Infor EAM
Georgia Gkioka TE-VSC-ICM National Technical University of Athens TE-VSC Seminar June 20, 2017 (CERN) June 20, 2017

2 Contents Introduction vacDM Conclusion and Key Takeaways
Overview of ICM section SCADA VacDB InforEAM vacDM Functional Positions Assets Architecture Conclusion and Key Takeaways June 20, 2017

3 Overview of ICM section
Beam and Insulation vacuum systems ~130km of vacuum chambers Pressure range from 10-4 to mbar: ~3000 vacuum pumps ~3000 vacuum gauges ~500 sector valves For monitoring and supervision: 5 SCADA servers ~300 PLCs TE Technology Department VSC Vacuum, Surfaces and Coatings ICM Interlocks, Controls and Monitoring June 20, 2017

4 SCADA Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition
Communicates in real-time with controllers running the vacuum process Presents data to operators using a graphical user interface (GUI) in order to: Check the process React to alarms Interact with devices Check what happened in the past The equipment displayed in the SCADA comes from vacDB vacDB June 20, 2017

5 InforEAM Manage the lifecycle of equipment in a large installation Infor EAM Equipment Management Work Management Stock Management Equipment tracking: What? Where? Relationships between equipment Work dispatch creation of WorkOrders Work tracking: Who? When? Materials & Parts accounting How many? Which shelf? 7 Managing Functional Positions
3/3/2017

8 Challenges when managing functional positions
Functional Positions on the SCADA might not be available in InforEAM Functional Positions in InforEAM might not contain their official description Manual imports of equipment to InforEAM are time consuming and error-prone Ensuring continuous consistency is of critical importance for the quality of data. vac-DB InforEAM-DB Naming Portal Naming-DB June 20, 2017

9 The solution - vacDM vacDM is a web application that ensures cross-database consistency Developed within ICM section vac-DB InforEAM-DB Naming-DB June 20, 2017

10 vacDM – Requirements for functional positions
New functional positions on SCADA must be automatically created on InforEAM With official Naming Portal descriptions Functional positions removed from SCADA must be automatically marked as Out of Service Equipment relationships – who controls who – must be automatically imported to InforEAM Changes in vac-DB should automatically be reflected in InforEAM Equipment name changes Naming descriptions Hors service  status OBSOLETE or PENDING June 20, 2017

11 vacDM – How does it work? vacDM periodically checks all equipment available on vacDB For each equipment, the corresponding description is fetched from the Naming DB vacDM checks if the equipment is already declared in InforEAM and if not, the equipment is created vac-DB Naming-DB vacDM InforEAM-DB The process can be triggered and configured through a web interface June 20, 2017

13 Advantages for the end user
Users can create work orders from SCADA Equipment affected by intervention in a PLC: June 20, 2017

14 Placeholders for physical equipment e.g. VVGST.3.6L5.R

15 Managing Assets June 20, 2017

16 Challenges when managing assets
Physical Equipment If not declared in inforEAM – Where is it? What are its parameters? If not labelled – Which equipment is it? What is it controlling? What history? To solve this, equipment started being labelled and imported into InforEAM Ion pump controllers Beautiful in theory, but in reality… manually! Thousands of equipments were labeled, but not declared in InforEAM. June 20, 2017

17 The solution - vacDM Label Request and Automatic Asset Creation
1. User selects “Request Labels” 2. User fills-in quantity 3. Request for label printing sent to JIRA 4. Assets automatically created in Infor 5. Responsible prints the labels and clears on hold 6. Mail is sent to user after labels are printed The history of requests is preserved. June 20, 2017

18 Statistics of equipment
~ 4500 Assets with the help of vacDM since the end of February ~ 9750 Functional Positions only for LHC soon to increase for SPS and CPS ~ 7400 Equipment Dependencies June 20, 2017

19 vacDM – High level Architecture
Why did we choose these technologies in the first place? modern technologies used widely in the industry support in community Expertise Used in CERN extensively Presentation Layer The presentation layer handles the visual part of the application (UI). It is done with Boostrap for styling and with javascript and jquery. Data displayed in the presentation layer is acquired by means of API asynchronous calls to the business layer controllers.  Business Layer The business layer implements the Spring Controllers for handling web resources and APIs and general business logic. It receives http requests, and if needed, calls DAO object functions in the persistence layer to access database data.  Persistence Layer The persistence layer implements DAO objects which provide abstraction to the business layer of the database details.  Database Layer The database layer is responsible for the storage of data. The CERN ORACLE infrastructure is used.  June 20, 2017

20 Key takeaways 1. vacDM maintains quality data by eliminating inconsistencies between DBs 2. vacDM manages the full life cycle of equipment in Vacuum group 3. vacDM has improved the process of label printing for all ICM equipment 4. vacDM has been thoroughly tested and is available for all VSC equipment We would like to offer you (all the people in VSC group) the opportunity to use it  June 20, 2017
