1 Mobile Data Interoperability
Issues

2 Applications WEB Based programs –Data access XML Microsoft Office
PDF – Documents and Forms All are valuable tools and can be used for incident management

3 Day-to-Day Interoperability
98% of all interoperability; planned and coordinated What uses? On-scene mapping, plume modeling Air and ground based video to responders Fire fighter of the future Security issues? Access to Data bases – Internet Based? VPN? Each Agency? Regional systems? Nationwide System? How will different systems link together?

4 Task Force Interoperability
Wide area roaming with need for close-in communications among small group; often not planned but is coordinated What uses? On-scene mapping Air and ground based video to responders Documents: affidavits, search warrants, etc Security issues? Covert (LPI/LPD) Access to Data bases – Internet Based? VPN? Agency? Regional? National? How will different systems link together?

5 Mutual Aid Interoperability
Unplanned (except conceptually), typically large response from wide area; often many different incident scenes What uses? Examples: Travel channel: uploading staffing/resources (minimize staging) On-scene mapping, plume modeling Air and ground based video to responders How are out of area resources accommodated? How soon is interoperability needed? How to link back to data sources or data reception points?

6 Unit-to-Unit (Direct Mode)
What will it be used for? How will it be used? Is it needed?

7 Mobile Data Tools Narrowband Data <= 30 kb/s
Wideband data <= 300 kb/s Broadband data > 300kb/s and < 2000 kB/s All will be available at 700 MHz in near future for interoperability “In our recent Report to Congress submitted pursuant to Section 7502 of the Intelligence Reform Act of 2004, we found that emergency response providers would benefit from the development of an integrated, interoperable nationwide network capable of delivering broadband services throughout the country.”

8 How to Implement? How do we implement mobile data interoperability, given the answers to questions from the previous slides and unknowns of future needs? Narrowband? Wideband? Broadband? A need for some of each?
