The children play Hanukkah games, like spin the Dreidel. This four sided top has one Hebrew Letter on each side: nun,gimel,hya, shin. These stand for the Hebrew phrase sham hayah, godol nes meaning "A Great Miracle Happened There."
Some Jews light one candle the first night and add one additional light every subsequent night. Others Jews start with all eight candles lit and decrease one every night.
