Unit 3 & 4

2. Course Description – Units 3 & 4 are to be taken together and are units that are broken down into two main areas of learning – School assessed coursework and school assessed task.
School assessed coursework – This will focus on the study of a designer in society, the different role he or she may be called on to perform, areas a designer may needs to consider and the products they may create.
School assessed task – This is an areas that the student has to create. Students will establish a client, analyse a problem, design a solution to the problem, make the product and then evaluate the success of the product and the design process.

3. Assessment
School Assessed Coursework is assessed through one outcome per term:-
Outcome No-1 The role of a designer.
Outcome No-2 Design and development in industry.
Outcome No-3 Evaluating commercial products.
School Assessed Task this is assessed according to a nine point marking criteria with each criteria worth 10 marks. This school assessed task is subject to external review.
Final external exam

5. Extra activities/costs?
The department has a budget of $ per student for materials required to complete the school assessed task. If a students project exceeds this amount, then the student will need to pay the extra cost and parent approval will be required.
