3. What is Jailbreaking? Technical Definition:
“An iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple TV hack that allows users to gain access to the entire Unix file system. In Unix terms, this refers to changing the root of the directory tree to /.”
Able to add additional apps to your iDevice.
The app Cydia must be downloaded so you can change:
App icons
Wallpapers
Dock
Status Bar
Etc.

4. Advantages of Jailbreaking
Gain access to apps that were previously blocked
The ones that were rejected by Apple, but that does not mean they are bad.
Back up information you normally couldn’t
Save Voic s and Texts on the computer
Completely Reversible

Overall Performance
Rooting means “to get to the root of the operating system and to have the ability to make global changes.”

6. Advantages of Rooting Increase Performance Protect your Device
Remove Bloat ware
Remove apps that are usually not uninstall-able
Make Backups
Configure Restricted Settings
Custom ROMs

7. Disadvantages
Disadvantages are the same for both rooting and jail breaking:
Voids out the phone warranty once software is downloaded
Risk of bricking your phone
Viruses
Phones and devices can get viruses if the jailbreak or rooting code has been altered before being installed by a third party.

9. Jailbreaking Process Ex. Redsn0w for iOS 6.1
Download iOS 6.1 on device
Download latest version of Redsn0w
Connect device and put in DFU mode
Click extras>IPSW
Go to main page of Redsn0w and click jailbreak
Install Cydia to complete jailbreak process
Place back in DFU mode
Select firmware and reboot
