Project overview We aspire to create a portable fitness guide that would motivate, record and advise the runner as he/she goes about his/her route. This device would be worn by a runner and consist of the following features: Play music that has an ideal BPM correlating to the speed at which you want to run Log your runs so you can review your progress over time Advise your pace based on your heart rate and temperature (i.e. if you heart rate is too fast, the guide will advise you to slow down)
4
Technical Objectives Accurately measure heart rate with an IR emitter/detector pair Calculate body temperature using a thermistor Use an accelerometer to measure pace and distance traveled Collect, log, and transmit data via Bluetooth Match song tempo to runner’s pace and speed/slow music according to user preference Output audio music files to headphone jack using SD card and SPI

Pulse Sensor Photoplethysmography (PPG is a noninvasive method of measuring blood volume in tissue PPG works by illuminating the skin and measuring changes in light absorption This can be accomplished using an IR light emitter and phototransistor Microcontroller Amplification Filtering

Thermistor Circuit Using a 10k thermistor, we will be able to detect dangerous temperatures for our runner If the runner gets too hot, we’ll tell him/her to cool down for a bit
