2 Introduction You do not need the title of an officer position to be a leader. All MEMBERS are LEADERS. Introduction When you thing about leadership what do you all think… Leading people? Or maybe being a officer? Well leadership is not about that… Anyone can be a leader..

Take action! Be proactive when planning for the future. Influence others through your actions Be inclusive and show kindness to others. The Importance of Leadership Why do we need Leadership? Well, just think of these four benefits. Take Action: When you develop leadership traits you increase your self esteem and you easily make decisions Plan Faster: You gain experience and you start to anticipate stuff which helps you be able to make plans at the fly Meet People: You become less shy and more confident which allows to talk to people easier Get Hired: Employers want people with leadership that can come up with new ideas or initiatives

Tips On Being A Leader PROFESSIONALISM ATTIRE: Dress accordingly! If you have to second-guess your outfit, don’t wear it You should always dress “one up” from your audience Tips On Beeing A Leader Proper Dressing for an occasion helps you develop leadership because it shows Professionalism. Know the attire For example, if you are leading a presentation in a Kiwanis DCM dress semiformal or Business Casual. If you have doubts about your outfit, don’t wear it, as it’s better be cautious than to get a bad first impression. A rule of thumb always dress more professional than your audience. 5 Communication SPEAKING: Use proper grammar
Do NOT use slang Enunciate your words so your audience can understand what you are saying Be polite and prompt with your topic Do NOT prolong your presentation longer than you need to. Speak to the back of the room Tone and volume must match the topic at hand as well as environment Communication Proper communication skills brings out the better you For Speaking remember to use proper grammar as it helps your creditability with your peers No slang as it makes you look uneducated or not serious with what you are saying In public speaking pronounce your words clearly so everyone can understand you. Be polite Always consider that your audience has things to do Don’t prolong conversations if it’s not necessary

7 ACTIVE LISTENING: Pay Attention! Feedback
Be aware of your surroundings Stay sharp! Remember deadlines! Two sided Talking TO people, not AT them Ask questions to show that you are paying attention Feedback For YOU to grow Allow members to offer suggestions and input Gain new ideas “We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. Roosevelt Active Listening Just like President Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, (say quote) That is what leadership is about, allowing yourself to take feedback from others and be aware of others concerns. To have leadership you have to look at every problem’s sides Treat others equally

Break the ice! Break the cliques Mix-and-match members around Spend time talking to the members Include them in all discussions Plan bonding days for them Ideas: Potlucks Service Events Bonfires Socials Fundraisers

9 Confidence MINDSET: TAKE RISKS: Put your mind to your goals.
Set Goals in the beginning and reach those goals. Have short term and long term goals! Weigh pro’s and con’s of every situation to make informed decisions Do NOT act on impulse! TAKE RISKS: Taking risks can test your leadership ability! Trust yourself enough to make the right decisions. Show your passion for Key Club by taking the risks in hopes of making positive changes! Confidence To gain leadership traits you must have confidence in yourself Remember that everyone is unique and that every “leader” is different Goals help as they help you push yourself to things that you may have never done. Weighting the pro’s and con’s of every situation helps you make better decision But remember to take risks Note that Key Club can help you take risks to better improve your community

10 Educate… YOURSELF + THE MEMBERS YOU SERVE Research your topics
The more you know, the more your audience will know BEE prepared to answer any questions Ask the questions that members don’t know how to ask Education Education is an important characteristic of leadership as President John J. Kennedy said, (say quote) Research everything you need to know Is always better to know more about something before hand than to figure out everything in the last minute Always have answers to questions Always expect the unexpected “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” - John F. Kennedy

11 Teamwork Communicate Separate task work Set goals
Express ideas and viewpoints BEE open-minded Give constructive criticism Separate task work Use Team’s strengths to your advantage TRUST your team members Do not try to take on all the work Push Team members to take reasonable risk Teamwork Being a leader means being able to work with others. If you cannot communicate your thoughts, nothing will get done. Plan ahead and set goals! When it comes to discussion, be sure to all everyone to express their ideas and viewpoints. You may disagree, but remember to stay respectful and open-minded. If you shut someone down for speaking their mind, they are less inclined to share again. All criticism should be constructive and help the individual GROW. Delegate and split the workload! Each team member has different strengths and weaknesses. Utilize each person’s strengths! Taking on all the work may seem like the easiest option or the safest option, but you have to trust that the team will be able to accomplish their work.

12 Teamwork Do not feel like you are alone! You have tons of people to help you! You are part of a team where people are there to help! They are available to help you reach your goals and you are there to help them as well! Don’t be afraid to delegate work. Don’t be afraid as you have people who are wiling to give aid If you are an officer especially the President remember that you have a team set up to aid you in anything “Delegating work works, providing the one delegating works, too.” - Robert Half

14 Service GIVE BACK: Set an example to the members you serve by serving your home, school, and community! Keep members involved! Offer weekly to bi-monthly service events Show them the merit in giving back! Smile while serving Connect with the people you are helping Enjoy service and show just how big of an impact the members are making! Service A great leader is someone who gives back to the community and sets an example So have a positive attitude.. Don’t be swearing in front of adults that are strangers to you If you are an officer have events frequently to keep the members back

Puts others first and helps others to preform and develop to the best of their ability
