1. Let Me Introduce Myself
This is my 5th year at MJH.
I have lived in the Bountiful area most of my life.
When I’m not at school, I like to read, garden, sew, cook, and be outdoors with my family.

Give parents/students a little information about who you are. Keep this short to the point in no more than 3 bulleted statements that tell something unique/interesting/personal about you. For example, you may list a few of your favorite things, something you are passionate about, family, hobbies, education, accomplishments, etc.

2. Classroom Policies and Procedures for ALL Classes
Late Work – I accept all late work for full credit until the midterm and term end cut off date. With the exception of quizzes and tests, which must be made up within one week.
Beginning Class – come into class quickly, quietly sit down, and follow the instructions on the board.
Ending Class – stay in your seat until the bell rings.
Hall Pass – get a drink and use the bathroom before class. If you must go during class, ask Mrs. Smith when the class is working.
Missing Class – the class calendar is available on my website. If you need additional help or information about missing work, check with Mrs. Smith.
NOTE:
List rules/policies/procedures specific to your classroom (as opposed to school-wide policies/procedures).
Consider policies for tardies/absences, late/missing work, homework/testing.
Consider procedures for turning in work, picking up handouts and assignments when returning from an absence, etc.

3. Supply List for ALL Classes
READING BOOK
1 composition notebook (will stay in class)
pencil and pen
lined paper with holes for binder
binder or a section of a binder for English
NOTE:
List what parents need to provide and what students need to bring to class everyday, like pens/paper, calculator, colored pencils, highlighters, reading book, pocket folders, 3-ring binders, dividers, instruments, clothing/shoes, etc.
Also, list any materials that will be required for projects/presentations that parents may need to plan for, like tri-fold display board, pop bottles for rockets, fabric, paints, popsicle sticks, string, straws, etc.

4. How to Get an A in Mrs. Smith’s Class
Come to class on time everyday, prepared with a book, work, and supplies.
Participate in class activities and discussions.
Even though I have a generous late work policy, your best work will be done on time and with the class.
Complete all work according to directions.
When absent, access Canvas to get the work you missed.

5. Class Calendar & Content
The class calendar and content will be available on CANVAS only I will not be updating my MJH website this year.
To access Canvas, go to the MJH website In the upper-right corner, click on Tools, then Canvas.
There is also a Canvas App. This can be found in your phone’s app store.
Student Login – district / password: first letter of first name in caps followed by 7-digit pin (ex. S ).
Parent Login – click the Canvas link to create a parent account.
I will do an in-depth demonstration in class on accessing Canvas.

Students will be able to:
produce both informative and argumentative text-based essays.
produce narrative writing with dialogue.
close-read informational text to determine a central idea, identify structure, and cite textual evidence.
read and comprehend literature, including novels, stories, dramas, and poetry.
engage in collaborative discussions with diverse partners on a variety of topics.
demonstrate knowledge of standard English conventions and grammar.
