“How Does the Spirit Keep Me from Sin?” www. faithbuilders.wikispaces.com

3 How Does the Spirit Keep Me from Sin?
Sin has the ability to grip us; to enslave us in thought patterns and behaviors that grieve the Lord and harm us and others. OR Sin has the power to grip us; to enslave us in thought patterns and behaviors that grieve the Lord and harm us and others.

4 Ability or Power 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Romans 6:12-13 ABILITY POWER

5 Ability or Power 14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin. 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. Romans 7:14-15 ABILITY POWER

6 Ability or Power  1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. Romans 8:1 ABILITY POWER

7 The Emancipation Proclamation
History tells us that there was a three year gap between the Emancipation Proclamation and the actual freeing of slaves. In actuality many believers still live enslaved to the domination of sin, over which victory has already been won!

8 Emancipation Proclamation
The Christian’s Emancipation Proclamation Romans 6:6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; “Sin is not the way you have to be, it is the way you choose to be.”

9 Emancipation Proclamation
The Christian’s Emancipation Proclamation We can never live our earthly life totally free from sin, but thanks to the power God provides through the Holy Spirit we can live on the victory side enabling us to walk a whole new way of life. The old nature is there but we do not have to listen to it, spend time with it, or yield to it. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11

10 How to Live Free 1. Accept the fact that only an omnipotent God can bring relief to the problem of sin. 2. Learn to recognize that life lived in the energy of the flesh is centered on self. 3. Know that the life lived with the Spirit in control leads us into grace.

11 The Benefits of the “Free Life”
1. Life and Peace – Romans 8:8 the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 2. Intimacy with God – Romans 8:15 you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 3. Inner Assurance – Romans 8:26,27 the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 4. Inner Awareness – Romans 8:28 God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God Romans 8:8  and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8 (NASB77) Romans 8:15 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, " Abba! Father!" Romans 8:15 (NASB77) Romans 8:26,27 26 And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 (NASB77) Romans 8:28  And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NASB77)
