Company Ltd has an after-tax profit of $500,000 with 600,000 $2 ordinary shares fully paid. The dividend payout ratio is 60% and the price/earnings ratio is 20:1. Share price (3 marks) Earnings per Share = 500,000 / 600,000 = 83 cents per share PER = 20 / 1 = MP / E.P.S. – so Market price must be 20 x .83 = $16.67 Earnings yield (3 marks) EPS / MP = .83 / = 5% Dividend yield (3 marks) Div Per Share = .83 x .6 (payout ratio) = 50 cents per share .50 / = .03 = 3% OR 5% x 60% payout ratio = 3%
