4 Advantages of a Settled Life
People could have a steady supply of food all year. They no longer had to travel. They even had surplus food- more than was needed.

5 The Population Grows Food surplus allowed families to have more children. The population grew fast.

6 Early Villages and Towns
Farming settlements grew larger into towns. With a surplus of food, people did not have to spend all of their time farming. People were able to do other things- like become artisans.

How did people’s lives change once they began to produce their own food? Once people began to produce their own food, people’s lives changed a lot! They began to settle in communities and the population increased. Effect of food surpluses on people & population? Food surpluses caused the population to increase and people could do jobs other than farming.

10 Activity for Today Setting: A growing farming village in Mesopotamia.
Character: Young boy or girl. Situation: In your story, you are going to tell about the changes happening in your village as a result of all the farming that has begun. Today we are going to apply what we learned yesterday in a creative way! Using your flow chart, you are going to write a short comic strip about you in the time when farming began.
