DRAWING AN O.S. MAP SKETCH MAP
2
Follow the Rules! Use a pencil – it is easier to rub out (Pens can only be used from writing titles, labels, etc.) Always draw a frame for your sketch map. The frame should be the same shape as the photograph or Ordnance Survey map you are sketching (Generally, HALF SCALE is a good size) Divide the Frame for your Sketch into the Sections you have been shown. Draw the same sections onto the Map itself. Give a title to your sketch map. “Sketch Map of _______________ O.S. Map” Give a key to it also, as this will avoid over-crowding on your sketch. Each symbol you use on the map must be explained in the Key. The Key must only be drawn at the bottom of your Sketch. Not at the side or on the next page! Put a little colour into your sketch, but don’t get carried away – you don’t have the time in the exam! EG: If there is Sea on your Sketch, then colour that, but DON’T colour the land as well, Colouring must be done with COLOURING PENCILS ONLY. No Highlighters, Markers, etc. Colouring must also be even and light, not heavy and scribbled.
