2 Mrs. Cagle Late / Incomplete Work Absentee Policy Tardy Policy
English II Class of 2020 Mrs. Cagle Late / Incomplete Work Absentee Policy * YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check the Absent Work Folder when they are absent. Any assignments that are not online will be in the Absent Work Folders by my desk. * A student has two extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. My expectation is that ALL assignments be completed to a level of proficiency (70% or higher) and turned in on time Students will have the opportunity to turn an assignment in late; however they must use one of their Cagle Crisis passes.. If this is not filled out and attached, then the work will not be graded. You will get 3 Crisis passes a 9 weeks. Tardy Policy If you are not in the room WORKING when the bell rings, you are tardy. Consequences: 1st tardy: Warning 4th tardy: Loss of AIG points 2nd tardy: Parent Contact 5th tardy: Office referral 3rd tardy: Lunch Detention Beyond: Office referral Because we only have 90 minutes to learn awesome things, it is SUPER important that you are on time. On time means that you are IN YOUR SEAT. You must also be working on your bell work. Technology Chromebooks will be used daily in Language Arts. The majority of class assignments, projects, and assessments will be completed on Canvas. Students are expected to abide by all school and district digital safety rules and guidelines. Failure to do so will result in said student being banned from technology while in English II. Music will not be permitted the first nine weeks for any students. After that time period, any student who has lower than a ‘B” in this class will not be permitted to listen to music moving forward. Cell phones are prohibited!! Students may place phone in phone zone; however, one violation= office referral. Plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. First offense will result in a zero for the assignment and a parent contact. Beyond that, an office referral will be made.

3 Mrs. Cagle Welcome to Room 327 COURSE OUTLINE
English II Class of 2020 Welcome to Room 327 Mrs. Cagle COURSE OUTLINE “The Heroic Quest” Every tale begins with a quest. In this unit, we will analyze multiple “heroic” tales comparing their similarities, differences, and analyze what is a hero? “The inHUMANity of Man” What makes a human? What makes a human choose to harm another human? In this unit, students will analyze what it means to be human and what factors go into developing a moral compass. Where Have I Seen You Before? Archetypes are recurring characters, stories, symbols, and themes in literature. Using the Greek mythology and creation stories, students will learn to recognize all forms of archetypes. Fight or Flight? The Art of Survival Are survivors born or are they mad. During this analytical unit, students will read and discuss this topic and analyze literary and nonfiction survivors to develop a guaranteed survivor’s strategy. The Power of the Pen and the Tongue We use all manners rhetoric (words) to convince others around to our point of view. Students will learn about these persuasive techniques.
