Body Paragraph Format Example
Transition Word + Topic Sentence Quote Sentence 2 sentences of Commentary Transition Sentence (Wraps up your paragraph)

Topic Sentence A mini thesis, this sentence:
Clearly indicates the point you are making in the paragraph, which in turn, supports the thesis of the paper. Prepares the reader to hear the evidence you have collected to support your point.

Topic Sentence A topic Sentence states the focus of that particular body paragraph. Example: In the beginning, Stalin grew up poor in Georgia. This tells me that we are going to learn about Stalin’s early life.

Parts of a Textual Evidence Sentence

Textual Evidence Introduce each of your quotes!
Ex: According to Ray Bradbury, “… Ex: Furthermore, “… Ex: Although technology may benefit society, “… Ex: In “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, George says “…

Textual Evidence Include a citation after each quote!
Ex: …” (“Life of Leon Trotsky”) Ex: …” (Bradbury 2) Ex: …” (Reynolds 345)

Textual Evidence Cap the end of the sentence with your point! Why are you including this quote as textual evidence? What kind of point are you trying to make? Ex: …) indicating that George possessed above average intelligence and strength. Ex: …) telling us that the lovers must go above and beyond to be together.

Textual Evidence Put it all together! Moreover, technology has added convenience to society with “small rubber animals” (Bradbury 306) which clean homes, taking care of small menial tasks.

Textual Evidence Put it all together! According to History.com, “commanders and generals feared Stalin,” (“Life of Joseph Stalin”) indicating that he had a ruthless and unforgiving leadership style.

Commentary Sentences Commentary sentences can be additional conclusions that you draw about your evidence or paraphrases of new evidence from your sources. Example: Furthermore, Stalin’s leadership style pressured the U.S.S.R. into fear, creating an atmosphere of little opposition (Bernard 56).

Body Paragraph Finish with a sentence that wraps up your points and transitions to the next paragraph smoothly. And you are done! Body Paragraph! Voilà!
