The Lapwai Mission Eliza Spalding was a teacher and a student. She taught the Nez Perce to sew, knit, and cook. The Nez Perce taught Eliza to speak their language.

The Lapwai Mission After awhile, other people came and wrote books for the Native Americans.

The Lapwai Mission Henry Spalding made the Nez Perce cut there long hair and made them were white peoples clothing.

The Lapwai Mission Spalding helped to build things like a flower mill and a saw mill and some others.

The Lapwai Mission The Spaldings started their family at the Lapwai Mission, had a baby girl and named it Eliza, and then they had more babies.

Some of the Cayuse at the Whitman Mission became Christens, went to school, and wore the clothes that the white men wore. Cayuse is a member of a American Indian tribe.

Some of the travelers had measles. The disease spread to the Cayuse villages and they almost died. Dr. Whitman tried to help by using his medicine but It didn’t work.

One day a group of Cayuse men attacked the Whitman Mission. They killed Whitmans and some others who where living there. The Cayuse men took 40 of the men on the Whitmans Mission and took them as prisoners.
