9. The history of loong
Loong is a special animal worshiped（崇拜) by the Chinese people from“The New Stone Age”.
Some people think that the Yanzi crocodile (扬子鳄 )is the archetype(原型) of loong.
However, most people hold that loong is a combination of many animals. And the abilities of those animals have been collected to it.

10. Why did the ancient Chinese people want to create loong?

11. Many scholars consider that it originated from the worship （崇拜）to animals.
In remote antiquity（古代） the main human activity was hunting. So animals were what people were most interested in. Ancient people had to survive from hunting animals which were the main food for them and also had to avoid the attacks which were the threats to their lives from fierce animals.

12. They put the special abilities together into a loong whose power was beyond all other animals. They made loong a deity（神位） and worshiped it thereafter.
Later, loong became the symbol of power and monarch(君主).
Now it stands for the whole Chinese nation.
