Plot A = EXPOSITION: Background on characters, situation, and setting
B = INITIAL INCIDENT: sparks the action C = RISING ACTION: events that intensify the conflict D = CLIMAX: highest point of the story tension E= FALLING ACTION: events following the climax F= DENOUEMENT: resolution; remaining issues resolved; conclusion, insights revealed by the narrator

If you can’t identify a definite setting, the author wanted it to apply to all people in all cultures.

Elements Characters Major/Minor Round/Flat Static/Dynamic

Characters Major: most important to plot Minor: add extra interest Round: shows many different traits Flat: shows only one trait Static: does not change Dynamic: changes during the story

Dialogue Elements Conversations among characters Note
Dialect: a form of language spoken by people in a particular region or group Idiomatic expressions: means something different from the actual words

Point of View Elements First person
(narrator is a character in the story) Third person (narrator is not a character in the story)
