Navigation Acts restricted trade (1651) Massachusetts punished; King Charles strips charter in 1684; no more Puritan Utopia King James II creates Dominion of New England (modern-day MA, ME, NH, RI, CT, NY, NJ) that lasted from 1686 to 1689 I’m King Charles, and I endorsed this message and the Navigation Acts of 1651.

Lived Last Catholic King of England (He converted in the late 1660s.) Reign lasted from Replaced by his son-in-law and daughter (King William III and Queen Mary II) during the Glorious Revolution (1688) Attempted to regain the thrown in 1690, but lost the Battle of the Boyne

Salutary Neglect = Self-Government (Under William & Mary)
Salutary Neglect=England did not enforce all laws so colonies would remain “economically loyal” Colonial legislatures dominated governors who were appointed by the King Parliament looked the other way as long as raw materials went to England and colonists bought English goods Colonists grew fond of governing themselves (seeds of revolution)
