Responsibility. Jakkin is a responsible character. Jakkin's decision to walk inside the bunkhouse even after his angry exit, shows he is responsible, in that he knows a drakk can kill the hatchlings, and he knows he has to report what he saw. The objective of this lesson is to look at responsibility. In groups students will list the responsibilities of adults in society. How might have Jakkin not fulfilled those responsibilities? How does he fulfill them? What about Likkarn? Review Ch. 16 Read Ch. 17

Many books have one main protagonist and one main antagonist. This complex book, one in a series, has many protagonists and antagonists, but there is one major protagonist and one major antagonist. The objective of this lesson is to look at protagonist and antagonist. Class work. In class have students label the main characters in Dragon's Blood as either a protagonist or antagonist and explain why. Discuss as a class. Review Ch. 17 Read Ch. 18

30 Hook Review Chapter abstracts for Ch. 17-19 Chapter 17:
A year passes since Jakkin obtained his dragon and it is ready to fight. * Akki brings Jakkin papers to sign to register his dragon for the next fight in Krakkow. * When Akki learns Jakkin plans to fly his dragon to Krakkow, she says she can get him a dragon transport wagon. * Jakkin is angry that Akki suggests the wagon since she promised not to tell anyone about the dragon. Chapter 18: Jakkin grooms his dragon and then loads it in a transport which is driven by a man named Ardru, who is a freeman. * Jakkin takes his dragon to their assigned stall and calms it by looking in its eyes. * Jakkin is embarrassed that his shirt is stained, but shrugs it off. * Jakkin hears one of Sarkkhan's dragons fighting but believes Sarkkhan will not recognize Jakkin's dragon. Chapter 19: Jakkin's dragon is assigned to fight Bottle O' Rum, a three-time winner and rough fighter. * Jakkin knows that Red must win or he will lose her as he leads her to the ring.
