4 Reasons of late marriages particularly in Pakistan

5 Dowry a social evil Demanding of dowry is a social evil or a crime. Every eligible boy has a price. He is for sale to the highest bidder. His parents dictate the terms and demand dowry in the form of cash and kind. Such demands put the poor father of the girl in a tight corner  He, however, cannot meet constant demands made repeatedly even after marriage as there is a limit to his finances . He may beg, borrow or steal but he has to spend for his daughter's marriage First major reason of unmarried is poverty. Most of parents cannot afford the dowry of their daughters. The pressure among some Pakistanis to provide a large dowry results in some bride's families going into debt, including debt servitude; some brides build up their dowry with their own earnings if they work outside the home. The debt trap created by providing large dowries puts pressure on parents aspiring to arrange a marriage for their daughter(s) into a better social class. It is also cited as a reason for the current trend toward delayed marriages.

6 This evil has subjected brides to risks of being harassed, tortured and even of death (Dowry death).

7 Presence of unmarried sisters at home
Family responsibilities Presence of unmarried sisters at home   . The second prevalent reason is the presence of unmarried sisters at home. It has become a tradition specifically in Pakistan that brothers have to wait for all sisters to get married before he brings a partner at home. No wonders if the son is the eldest in the progeny, here mom focuses on daughters for early marriages. As a result the son gradually travels from late boyhood to early manhood and sometimes to early forties before the miracle of marriage happens in his life.

8 Didn't find the right match earlier
Waiting for marriage for their daughter(s) into a better social class is also cited as a reason for the current trend toward delayed marriages.

Higher status of bridegroom is desired for a higher educated or advanced status girl. Advertisements are given in newspaper or matrimonial services are preferred. Some of the prospective aspirants are selected and list of options is prepared. Procedures for enquiry of antecedent of a suitable bridegroom are carried out. All this procedure consumes most of the time. Again the girl becomes more over aged. Higher status of bridegroom is desired for a higher educated or advanced status girl.
