1. Buildings, Earthquake Preparedness

2. Problem/issue
If a building is not well built, then it collapses in an earthquake, and we lose a lot of money to fix it, but if we can build our buildings better then we will not have to pay more in the end to fix the building when it crumbles.

4. Relation to Earth Science
The preparedness for earthquakes is related to earth science because, in class, we just learned about plate tectonics, and that is what causes earthquakes. We learned about the different boundaries, and how they work. Most of the time transform boundaries are what cause earthquakes, so we need to build better buildings on these boundaries.

5. Research
Poor infrastructure is one of the highest causes of death during an earthquake. “Earthquake-prone areas here are pockmarked with schools and other facilities built decades ago that don't meet earthquake safety standards. The Utah Seismic Safety Commission recently concluded that 60% of a sampling of 128 schools did not meet federal guidelines.”

6. Call to Action
We learned about the different boundaries, and how they work. Most of the time transform boundaries are what cause earthquakes, so we need to build better buildings on these boundaries. We need to develop a stronger base, and a better material to make the building.
