Integrates historical and philosophical foundations of education in relation to current/modern education; examines development of teaching – action and profession – over time in the US; introduces concepts related to vocabulary, policy, reflective practice, teacher research, social justice, professional dispositions
Covers: legal rights and responsibilities, professional dispositions, policy, career paths

15. New Courses Teaching Diverse Learners (Spring 2018)
Description:  A survey course that focuses on effective differentiated instruction and management strategies for working with diverse learners to build capacity for constructing a culturally responsive learning environment. 
Covers: differentiated instruction, ELL, exceptional needs, literacy, multicultural awareness. dyslexia

16. New Courses Classroom Assessment and Research (Fall 2018)
Focuses on creation and implementation of teacher research with application to student learning. Assessment literacy is threaded throughout the course.
Provides foundational understanding of assessment, teacher research, data collection and analysis, application of findings; address need for professional understanding of student data rather than creation of standardized product
Field experience of minimum 20 hours attached to the course

Focuses on analyzing and creating a positive school and classroom culture to increase student engagement and success.
