4. Language Objective
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the language domains of reading and writing to communicate the academic math language of solving real world connected math problems.
Students will verbally communicate and evaluate/solve these problems by persevering to solve at least 80% of the MCAS problems with their groups and compete in “A Minute to Win It” style challenge to show their understanding.
Academic Math Language Vocabulary: Expressions, equations, variables, data points, statistics, graphical representation of data, geometric shapes, angles, area, volume, perimeter…

STACK IT UP: Players must stack 25 pennies in under a minute using only one hand. This game works well with 3 players competing in each round of play.
One player per team.

“SPACE SAUCER”: Players place a straw in their mouth and use suction to transfer a pile of 25 circle chips from one plate to another in under one minute. Only one hand may be used to hold the straw. One player per team.

“SCOOP IT UP”: Using nothing but a spoon in your mouth, transfer six ping pong balls from one bowl to another in less than one minute. No hands!
