1 Great Sankey High School ‘Coping in Crisis’
26th May 2017

2 What happened & who is responsible?
As you will have seen reported in the media, we know that an explosion occurred in the foyer of the Manchester Arena at around 10.30pm on Monday night, at the end of Ariana Grande’s concert. Many of the attendees were leaving, and this has tragically led to the death of 22 people, with a further 59 reportedly injured.   It is OK not to understand why!

3 What is happening now? Britain’s status has moved from severe to critical. Please do not be alarmed by this. Over the coming days, you will see more Police Officers on our streets – they are there to provide a visible presence and offer re-assurance. The Police are working tirelessly to find out the full circumstances around this horrifying attack and, while you may be understandably concerned, they want to reassure you that they are doing everything in their power to ensure our safety. .

4 Our Values… ‘Greatest Together’

5 A pride & place in our community…

6 The power of social media…

7 Who can I turn to for further support?
It is important to ask for help and support if you feel that you have been affected by this event and are struggling. Share your thoughts if you can, it’s OK not to, but if the worry becomes too much – it’s good to talk. Support is available to you in school and we recommend the following over half term. A terrorist incident, especially one that feels ‘local’ or one to which we feel a ‘connection’, can have lasting impact on us and our communities.

8 How do we move forward… ‘Mutual respect’
“Don’t look back in anger, look forward with love. It’s not the hate and anger of the past that will win, it’s the love of the future.” Speaker after Manchester’s one minute silence. .
