Current environment 2 consortias for Finnish higher education libraries Voyager- system Linnea2 coordinates system universities and some special libraries AMKIT coordinates system for universities of applied sciences Public libraries and special libraries have several different systems Sierra, Axiell Aurora, KOHA, Mikromarc, Prettylib Central services for libraries developed and maintained by National library Melinda –metadata repository - Aleph-system Finna –discovery system - VuFind open source solution Finto –ontology system - Skosmos open source solution Server environment for Voyager- and Aleph –systems is maintained by CSC – IT Center for Science

What we are looking for New solutions to replace current Voyager- and Aleph-systems Working plan is to have new systems operating in the end of > start tendering in autumn 2016 Modern modular system that has APIs for integrating the system with other systems and services in libraries system environment Workflows for handling all kinds of materials: prints, electronic and digital Description environment That enables distributed metadata production and possibilities to move forward in production of open linked metadata Is able to serve all kinds of libraries with several different systems

Finna Metadata is harvested from local systems to Finna-index (OAI-PMH) Via API Availability check Library functions: renewing loans, holds and requests, requests from storage, payments, patron information, card information SFX used as link resolver Primo Central Index used for international e-material search

Melinda – current workflows
Libraries are cataloging to Melinda Academic libraries use Aleph –client Public libraries us Axiell Aurora –client (API to Aleph cataloging) Metadata is synchronized/replicated between Melinda and local catalogue Metadata is filtered and edited by following specific rules for each local catalogue Metadata can be changed also on local system Melinda does not include holdings or item information Inhouse developed protocols for duplication-control Inhouse developed protocols for handling component parts (mother and child records for f.ex music)
