Metaphor Definition: The comparison of two unlike thing without using like or as. Example from book: “The lights of the yacht became faint and ever-vanishing fireflies.” page 21. Example from book: “He was in a picture with a frame of water, and his operations, clearly, must take place within that frame." page 31.

Simile Definition: The comparison of two things using like or as.
Example from book: “The sea was as flat as a plate-glass window” page 20.

Personification Definition: Giving human like qualities to an object or animal. Where there's none: giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide open jaws. Page 28.
