1 Quiz 4 States of Matter REVIEW
Please write: CB __________________________ (your name here)

2 How to know if the answer Is correct or not
If it is similar to my sample answer, it’s most likely correct. Use your judgement! My sample answer will be in red. Any important info will also be in red. Each question is worth 2 points on this quiz. If the student is very close with their answer and you are unsure what to do, give them 1 point instead of 2.

3 The 3 states of matter 2 points possible
1. Describe the molecules in a solid. The molecules in a solid do not move past each other. (complete sentences – if it isn’t a complete sentence it is wrong!) 2 points possible Describa las moléculas en un sólido.

4 The 3 states of matter 2. Describe the molecules in a liquid.
The molecules in a liquid are able to move past each other. (complete sentences – if it isn’t a complete sentence it is wrong!) 2 points possible Describa las moléculas en un liquido.

5 The 3 States of Matter 3. Describe the molecules in a gas. The molecules in gas move quickly and are able to spread apart from each other. (complete sentences – if it isn’t a complete sentence it is wrong!) 2 points possible Describa las moléculas en un gas.

6 Matter is made of Atoms. The heavier object always contains more matter (atoms). It’s as simple as that… 4. Look at the picture below. Which object has more matter? __ELEPHANT______ 2 points possible ¿Qué objeto tiene más materia?

7 Matter is made of Atoms. The heavier object always contains more matter (atoms). It’s as simple as that… 5. Look at the picture below. Which object has more matter? __ROCK______ 2 points possible ¿Qué objeto tiene más materia?

8 Sometimes matter (atoms) has its own shape
Sometimes matter (atoms) has its own shape. Other times, matter has no fixed shape or volume, and instead fills up the empty space of its “container.” 6. Which state of matter has its own shape? In other words, which state of matter does not spread to fill in the shape of its container? SOLIDS have their own shape. 2 points possible ¿Qué estado de la materia tiene su propia forma? En otras palabras, ¿qué estado de la materia no se propaga para llenar la forma de su contenedor?

9 Sometimes matter (atoms) has its own shape
Sometimes matter (atoms) has its own shape. Other times, matter has no fixed shape or volume, and instead fills up the empty space of its “container.” 7. Which state(s) of matter will take on the shape of the area/container? In other words, which state of matter will spread to fill in the shape of its container? Both LIQUIDS and GASES will spread to fill in their container. 2 points possible ¿Qué estado (s) de materia tomará la forma del área / recipiente? En otras palabras, ¿qué estado de la materia se extenderá para llenar la forma de su contenedor?

10 Here is an example of questions 6-7 to help you understand.

11 PLASMA - The 4th state of matter
Plasma is the stuff of lightning, flame, and stars. Plasma is neither solid, liquid nor gas—plasma is a fourth state of matter. Although solids, liquids and gases are more familiar to us on Earth, over 99% of the matter of the Universe exists as plasma - in stars, like our Sun, or as interstellar matter. 8. Draw (or write about) one example of PLASMAS are helpful to humans. For this problem, students had to draw(or write) showing that fire, lightning, or the sun can help humans. There are many possible answers here. You will have to use your judgement! The next slide will show you sample answers. 2 points possible
