World War II Developments in Technology, aviation, weaponry, and communication
2
World War II Key developments in technology, aviation, weaponry, and communications had a significant impact on World War II. Building new technology in American factories also had an impact on the economy of the United States. This helped the U.S. get out of the Great Depression.
3
Science and Technology
4
Bombers Boeing B 17 Made in the United States
Aviation innovations included improved bombers that were able to fly farther and the use of radar to track these planes and to spot enemy planes.
5
AVIATION By the end of the war, jets were being developed.
After the war, personal and business air travel and transportation of goods around the world grew because of the technology of the airplane.
6
RADAR Radio Detection and Ranging
Used to range, detect and map objects such as aircraft Modern Uses GPS Radar Guns Weather Wearable radar (for visually impaired)
7
Computers THEN “Colossus” was the first programmable digital electronic computer Was used to solve code It took up a whole room NOW Personal Computers Internet Compact Discs
8
Colossus Secret communications codes developed during the war contributed to the development of computer systems designed to break those codes.
9
Manhattan Project J. Robert Oppenheimer Jewish-American Physicist led the team of scientist in developing nuclear weapons.
10
Weaponry Advances in weaponry were made in response to wartime needs. The two atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan were developed by a team of scientists in the United States who were trying to beat the Germans to the technology.
