1 How to trim a dog’s nails

2 Step 1 The first step is to get the supplies you need ready. This means you will need to have a flat surface(table or floor), Nail clippers designed for dog nails, and styptic powder. Types of nail clippers: Guillotine and plier type nail clippers. Styptic powder: Powder used when the quick is clipped and the nail bleeds. The powder stops the bleeding.

3 Step 2 Dog Table Sternal recumbency Restrain the dog
After you have the supplies, you should double check that your clippers are sharp. Next, you get the dog on the flat surface (Table or floor). Once the dog is on the table you want to have them in a sternal recumbency position then put into a lateral recumbency position. Sternal recumbency Table Restrain the dog

4 Step 3 Hold which ever paw you decide to start with. Make sure whomever is restraining is holding the rest of the dogs feet/legs in case they try to get up. Check the nails and prepare to cut. Then align the nail cutters with the dogs pad, double check and cut. 1 2 3 4

5 Step 4 Looks Good! Check to see if the nail can be cut shorter.
Also check for bleeding, if the nail is cut too short and there is bleeding, apply styptic powder and slight pressure to the nail. Looks Good!

6 Step 5 Clipped Unclipped Move on to the next paw. Tips:
Don’t forget to cut the dewclaws! (Mostly on the front paws.) Take your time-Don’t rush. Don’t freak out if you cut the nails too short. Just remember… you can do it! Unclipped
