Have you ever made something like this?
• Have you ever drawn in the sand? • How did it make you feel when you made something like this? • How did it make you feel when it was swept away? Even though they might mention that they were sad this is the perfect opportunity to mention how sometimes art is temporary. That beauty like nature can only last a few minutes until nature takes it back or the flower fades, or how the leaf turns back into dirt.

What is a sculpture? A sculpture is something that you can touch. In some cases you can walk around. It most cases it has more than one side. What does 3-D mean? - An object that has height, width and depth.

Step 1 – Ideas to think about
Here are some rules to guide you in creating your art: Objects used in your art must be all natural (No man-made products such as wire, brick, concrete etc. should be used.) For safety, sticks may be no longer than your forearm and rocks no bigger than one can carry. Respect nature – do not pull up any plants or use any animal life. Projects should be solo work - no partners. The walking area is only in the corner behind the art room.

Step 2 – Create outside Stay within sight of teacher or parent volunteers when collecting items. 10 minutes to gather items and 25 minutes to creatively arrange them You will have a five minute warning before the creation time ends 5 minutes to photograph 2x the finished art 5 minutes to put your materials back

Step 3 – Photograph the Art NOTES FOR PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Have ONE parent be the photographer for this project. Other parents are helpers. Stay close to the students. Help them and ask questions. “ How can you make it better.” Consider closely the best way to take the picture. Ask the student which way is up? On the index card please write very clearly: name title Put the card next to the sculpture and take a picture. Collect all the name cards and put into the file folder in the cupboard when done IMPORTANT: Take TWO photos of the artwork - one with the notecard with student info. and one of the artwork only (this is the finished art!) Take SEVERAL photos of the work and review on the camera/phone to ensure there is at least one good shot before they dismantle their work. take at least one picture a little closer and another a little farther away. After they are done, ask the students to quickly put the items back where they found them so that other classes can continue to use the materials for their art.
