Hinduism Beginnings There is no “1” founder of Hinduism, instead it is a collection of many ancient religions. They believe that Brahman is overall god, however there are countless other gods in the religion. The Big Three Gods Brahman- Supreme God, Creator Vishnu- The Preserver Shiva- the Destroyer

Hindu Beliefs Every person has an essential self, or atman.
The goal in life is to achieve moksha, or union with Brahman. Since you can’t do it in one lifetime, they believe in reincarnation, or being reborn until you get it right. Karma is all the good stuff you do in your life that helps you get closer to moksha. Dharma is the religious and moral duties you must complete. Ahimsa is the principle of nonviolence, very important to Hindus.

Caste System This was a societal order that ranked individuals.
At the top were the Brahmin, who were the closest to achieving moksha. At the bottom were the Untouchables who were the furthest from achieving moksha.

Buddha Beginnings Siddhartha Gautama was born a Prince in Ancient India He lived a life of luxury and never left the palace walls until he was 29 When he finally went outside, he saw all the suffering in the world He decided to leave his life and seek knowledge.

Important Aspects 4 Noble Truths 1. All life is suffering
2. It’s caused by being bad 3. Only cure is to stop being bad 4. The way to stop being bad is to follow the Eightfold Path

The Eightfold Path There’s too much here to write down, and you will be reading about it anyway, so we will just skip notes on this. Speaking of notes, put them away and prepare to receive today’s reading!
