5. Lost Boys of Sudan
This week we will be reading about “The Lost Boys of Sudan”, an article about a group of Dinka youth who fled civil war (1983 – 2005) in their native country and spent a decade growing up in a Kenyan refugee camp. Eventually, these boys were resettled in the United States. The Dinka are the largest ethnic group of southern Sudan. Rebel troops invaded villages, killing thousands. Some of the children were herding cattle and fled from the grazing land to find refuge in other countries.

6. Lost Boys
The phrase Lost Boys is an allusion to characters in Peter Pan, by J.M. Barrie. Peter Pan was a boy who never wanted to grow up. He was charming and charismatic, and lived his life moving from one adventure to the next. He led his gang, the Lost Boys (others who refused to grow up), on adventures with mermaids, pirates, Native Americans. All this was possible because he lived in Neverland and could fly! Peter Pan was first published as a play (1904) and later as a novel (1911) before becoming immortalized by Disney in animation (1953).
