9 The Goal… Have participants review the skills taught.
Look carefully at the column for their associated grade level. Review that it would be ideal if all of the K students completed level 1 … first grade completed level 2 … and second grade completed level 3. We want all students to reach their potential … so it would be awesome if any children go beyond the mark, but during the remainder of this session, we’re going to focus on making sure every student meets the minimum goal of completing the associated level.

10 Personalized Learning.
Discuss how personalization in Waterford helps both low-performing and high-flying students achieve their potential … so we want to make sure all students are getting time on Waterford. Ask teachers to tell about any gifted students who are getting the challenge they need because they have Waterford. “I wanted to make sure to touch on this because Waterford is about potential, not test preparation. In our exercise today, we will focus on the struggling student but that does not mean Waterford is designed for struggling students…”

11 You might think of this as triage …
What is triage? – triage rations treatment efficiently when resources are insufficient for all to be treated immediately. With our limited time and resources, let’s spend time helping the kids who are at risk of not hitting the goal.

12 Monthly Action Planner:

13 Quadrants: Q1 Q2 Review the Quadrants – use these slides to help teachers keep it simple. Q3 Q4

14 How to sort…

15 Run a Class Progress Report:
Use data from these columns: Once you have the Class Progress Report for Reading and/or Math & Science (for a particular month) you will use the current location column and the average score column to sort your class.

16 Look at location targets:
Explain how teachers can use the table at the bottom of the Monthly Action Planning form to find the location targets. Here is a link to this .pdf in Box:

17 Usage Calculator… If your school/District are not able to schedule 15min or 30min daily sessions on Waterford (per our recommendations) – or you are looking at a specific number of instructional days, then this .pdf can help you know what the usage goal should be. It is available here:

18 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Quadrants: Current Location Current Location Score Score
Introduce the Quadrants. The current location is compared to the target on the Monthly Action Planning Form. If a students score is below 80% (and therefore has a red rectangle around it) their score is considered below target. The text in each quadrant appears each time you click the mouse. Q3 Q4

19 What could you do to help?
Q1 Q2 Keep up the good work! Increase time/sessions on Waterford. Observe Session(s). Motivate for better performance. Prioritize time/sessions on Waterford. Observe Session(s). Motivate for better performance. Here are our suggestions for what actions you could take for the students in each quadrant. Could students in Q4 be given extra sessions in place of those in Q1 for example? Do you have any suggestions on what you could do? Q3 Q4
