8 IEBC Approach What is the issue? (Summer)
*What questions do you want to answer *What do you want to know? Determine data necessary to understand the issue (Summer) Student focus groups (early fall) Review data and policies (summer) Use data to make judgments and make decisions (fall)

9 IEBC Approach Review of research-based high impact policy/practices that improve the problem you are trying to solve (fall) Determine your interventions and policies (fall) Use project management to ensure effective roll out of the high impact policy/practice (Late fall) Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the policy/practice (spring) Develop a feedback loop (spring)

10 Determining Data Necessary to Understand the Issue
Not locked into data suggested Local research can and should be used Cohort definition misses a significant percentage of students Suggest local data collection Cohort is becoming more diverse Cohort may not be reflective of current student population

11 Your Data - Observations
Enrollment relatively flat Hispanic enrollment increasing up 7% in two years Differential success rates for all course levels – some as high as 15% Some populations have retention rates that are disproportionality high compared with their success rates Similar statistics for those working to move out of pre-collegiate course to collegiate level (could be higher for English, above average for math) Low income and foster youth stats are low Completion rates are pretty good but could be higher

12 Need Data on… Enrollment trends Units attempted, units earned
Rerun cohorts on completion metrics Educational goal Student voice (focus groups) Program review

13 Where will all of this be going
Where will all of this be going? Link Strategies to The Problem You Are Trying to Solve If you have a basic skills problem? If you have a course completion problem? If you have a persistence problem? If you have a completion problem?

14 Your Data Will Suggest Paths to Improving Outcomes
Remediation Preparation Persistence Special Populations Student Services Instruction
