2 Software Copyright Issues
1.) Although you may be able to distribute software through a network system, you may need a network license. 2.) It is illegal for anyone to violate the copyright laws of the software. 3.) Under a copyright, computer software is registers as a literary work. 4.) Software can carry a copyright and be set with restrictions and limitations. 5.) Under the current US law, the copyright notice is not required to be on the document.

3 Software Piracy 1.) Illegal software can be incomplete or have a virus. 2.) You do not have to sell the illegal software to be breaking the law. 3.) Directors and owners of companies can be charged for being out of software compliance. 4.) Using software that you have purchased illegally, leaves you with no technical support.

4 Software Purchasing Agreements
1.) Libraries may lend software to their patrons with restrictions. 2.) Often organizations have ineffective purchasing policies and procedures that are enforced for their software. 3.) Make sure you keep your licenses in electronic or paper format because they are proof of compliance with the law. 4.) Software must be installed and used in accordance with the publisher's terms and agreements.

5 Acceptable Use Policy 1.) An AUP must address computer access and transmission of data within the school. 2.) An AUP must state that it complies with all state and federal telecommunications codes, laws, and regulations. 3.) Union's AUP says that computers should be used in a manner consistent with all Union policies. 4.) Union's AUP also says to avoid any action that may cause damage to a computer. 5.) Union's AUP states that deleting any application or system is prohibited and any s are subject to being monitored.

6 What can I do as a Teacher?
I can teach my students about copyright issues by being an example in the classroom.  I can take proactive steps to get enough software licenses legally. I can make sure that I know the laws, so that I am always in compliance. I can take advantage of free Internet software. I can create original art, music, and literary works to use in my classroom.
