New breakthroughs in communication technology and the internet over the past few years have had both good effects and bad consequences. While the internet may be a great tool for school research, playing games, or staying in touch with friends, it can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Knowing what to do and what NOT to do on the web is a useful skill to stay safe and protect your identity. This presentation will teach you some basics of online safety.

Refrain from sending inappropriate or embarrassing photos on the web (once they’re uploaded, you no longer have control over them)
If someone in a chatroom is sending threatening or illegal messages to you, save a chat log to use as evidence
DO NOT agree to meet internet strangers in real life without your parents’ approval, as not everyone on the web is who they say they are

However, if you have an up to date antivirus program running and you keep your software updated, your chances of receiving a virus are lower.
