Foreword We are living in the days where mobile devices and the internet are a huge part of our daily lives. New breakthroughs in communication technology and the internet over the past few years have had both good effects and bad consequences. While the internet may be a great tool for school research, playing games, or staying in touch with friends, it can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Knowing what to do and what NOT to do on the web is a useful skill to stay safe and protect your identity. This presentation will teach you some basics of online safety.

Stay private: Keep your name, address, telephone number, and school name confidential. Ensure that your internet aliases are not connected to your real name in anyway If someone in a chatroom makes you uncomfortable, end the conversation Refrain from sending inappropriate or embarrassing photos on the web (once they’re uploaded, you no longer have control over them) If someone in a chatroom is sending threatening or illegal messages to you, save a chat log to use as evidence DO NOT agree to meet internet strangers in real life without your parents’ approval, as not everyone on the web is who they say they are Avoiding Stranger Danger

What is a Computer Virus?
A computer virus is a piece of software designed to infect your PC in order to damage it, steal bank information from it, use it to download illegal software, or get you to pay money to the virus creators. You can receive a virus by downloading infected software, having an out-of-date program running, or just by typing in a web address incorrectly.
