Intro: Thesis statement (YOUR ARGUMENT)
Decide what you think. State your opinion in one sentence. (This will be your thesis statement for an argument essay.) Usually final sentence in first paragraph Tells reader your view. Make it CLEAR. TAKE A STAND

Body paragraphs- Develop your argument
Write at least 3 claims/reasons, with the strongest at the end. (Statements you make to support your argument) Make your reasons logical and relevant Be sure to cite text evidence (stats, quotes, etc.) to back up your claims.

Citing Your Sources Quotes should be in quotation marks.
You can talk about your source in your sentence Ex: According to Parenthood.com, “For some children, reading a story may be the only way they can deal with a particular fear.” OR You can put it in parenthesis. Ex: Children can use scary stories to “deal with a particular fear” (Parenthood.com).

Body Paragraphs: Counter Argument/Rebuttal
Acknowledge opposing ideas Rebut the opposing idea 1. Show the other side of the argument “Some may argue that…” “Some believe that…” “According to _____, “_____.” 2. Explain why that idea is wrong. (Rebuttal) “This is incorrect because…” “This idea is not accurate because…”

Conclusion Use a transition Briefly sum up your reasons
Restate your thesis Tie it all together with a strong concluding statement. Mention ramifications. Do NOT include new information, details, or text evidence.
