SOCIAL GAMBLERS Gamble for entertainment or relaxation
Do not risk more money than they can afford to lose Gamble with friends Gamble for limited periods of time Are not preoccupied with gambling

Problem Gamblers Experience problems because of gambling
Have trouble with relationships with family and friends because of gambling Gamble to escape negative feelings such as anxiety, depression, or loneliness

COMPULSIVE OR PATHOLOGICAL GAMBLERS
Are unable to control their gambling Lose more money than they can afford to lose, but keep gambling Destroy relationships with family and friends Experience problems with employment and relationships with employers and co-workers because of gambling Experience problems with their mental and physical health

COMPULSIVE OR PATHOLOGICAL GAMBLERS Con’t.
Gamble Alone Are unable to pay bills Are unable to pay gambling debts Are often irritable, depressed and/or withdrawn May think about suicide -20% attempt suicide Try to cover up their gambling by lying to friends and family Borrow large sums of money legally and illegally – to try to get out of debt
