ENY Module 2, Lesson 10 Objective:
I can multiply decimal fractions with tenths by multi-digit whole numbers using place value understanding to record partial products.
2
Fluency Practice What pattern do you notice? Solve: 3 x 2 = 3 x 2.5 = 3 x 2 x 10 ÷ 10 = 3 x 2.5 x 10 ÷ 10 = 5 x 0.3 = 2 x 3.4 = 5 x 0.3 x 10 ÷ 10 = 2 x 3.4 x 10 ÷ 10 =

Application Problem

43 x 2.4 Concept Development: Problem #1 STEP 1:
Will the actual product be greater than or
less than our estimate? How do you know? STEP 1: Round each factor to estimate the product. 43 becomes 40 and 2.4 becomes 2 STEP 2: Multiply your rounded factors to estimate the product. 40 x 2 = 80 STEP 3: Rename the decimal using tenths. 2.4 becomes 24 tenths STEP 4: Multiply. Write tenths to remind yourself of the unit you are using.
6
43 x 2.4 Concept Development: Problem #1 STEP 5:
Find the partial products and the final product. STEP 6: Convert your final product to standard form. 1032 tenths becomes ones or just 103.2

Concept Development: Problem #1
43 x 2.4 STEP 1: Round each factor to estimate the product. STEP 2: Multiply your rounded factors to estimate the product. When you rename 2.4 as 24
tenths, you've really just
multiplied 2.4 by 10! STEP 3: Rename the decimal using tenths. STEP 4: Multiply. STEP 5: Find the partial products and the final product. STEP 6: Convert your final product to standard form. When you convert 1032 tenths to
standard form, you've really just
divided 1032 by 10!

3.5 x 42 Concept Development: Problem #2 STEP 1:
Round each factor to estimate the product. STEP 2: Multiply your rounded factors to estimate the product. STEP 3: Rename the decimal using tenths (multiply by 10). STEP 4: Multiply. STEP 5: Find the partial products and the final product. STEP 6: Convert your final product to standard form (divide by 10).
9
15.6 x 73 Concept Development: Problem #3 STEP 1:
Round each factor to estimate the product. STEP 2: Multiply your rounded factors to estimate the product. STEP 3: Rename the decimal using tenths (multiply by 10). STEP 4: Multiply. STEP 5: Find the partial products and the final product. STEP 6: Convert your final product to standard form (divide by 10).
