I decided to do a PhD because….
I enjoyed the research projects in my undergraduate and masters degrees. I have worked for 7 years as a researcher – initially voluntarily, then employed (NHS), now self-employed. I talked to PhD students and post-docs I had researched the subject area – I knew there was a gap where my project would fit…..

To secure my PhD…… I identified a potential supervisor and discussed my project idea with them. I submitted a project proposal to the department. I was interviewed by both my prospective supervisor and another academic. I am a self-funded, part-time student, and am still working as a researcher while doing the PhD.

I anticipate that a PhD will….
Increase my knowledge of the subject area. Provide networking opportunities. Develop my research skills, and other skills. (e.g. teaching, presentation). Enhance my professional profile. Open up opportunities to work in H.E. / academic research.
