U.K. Radio Frequency Management
I.T.U Europe Rest of the world U.K. Government CEPT NATO Radio Communications Agency Ministry of Defense Defense Spectrum Management Civil applications Aircraft & Missile Manufactures Development test flying Ranges & Air force training
3
RF Spectrum used for telemetry in the U.K.
410 – 430 MHz band Range Applications 1427 – 1452 MHz (D band) Aeronautical telemetry 2310 – 2450 MHz (E band) Aeronautical telemetry All bands are shared with other users Radio Amateurs use E band for low power video transmissions TETRA uses 400Mhz frequencies for services communications
4
Techniques used Techniques have evolved over 20+ years Data – PAM, FM/FM, FM/FM+PCM, PCM Video – Raw video, Raw multiplexed video, Digitized compresses & multiplexed
5
Techniques used Voice – Base band FM/FM, Sub carrier FM/FM, Sampled analog , Digitized compressed RF Transmission – Missiles use 1 Transmitter Aircraft have separate video & data tx’s Space, frequency diversity used.
6
Current Status Meetings with users and MoD taking place No immediate threat identified No new D band authorizations for aeronautical telemetry
7
Current Status Increased demand for bandwidth anticipated Support will be given to proposal for additional frequencies above 3GHz. ( may need new techniques ) Techniques to improve utilization of existing spectrum to be considered Continue & expand dialog Aim for no surprises.
