2 National’s Mission “The mission of the National Venturing Officer’s Association is to promote and support the Venturing program, utilizing a standard organizational structure that enables local councils to grow membership by advancing leadership opportunities through communication, program, and administration.” Emphasize Standard organizational structure Grow membership Advance leadership opportunities Communications Program service

4 Venturing is the only program in BSA with youth representation at all tiers from the Crew to National Each president serves on the VOA at the next higher tier. All crew presidents are on the council VOA All council venturing presidents are on the Area VOA And so forth

7 2016-2017 Area 4 Vision Statement
“As Area 4 Venturing Officers, we want to educate and excite people about venturing opportunities at a crew, council, and area level, by planning fun events and providing resources.” At our Area VOA officer retreat the officers wrote a vision statement for this year.

This will help you as you seek to understand how to create and sustain a Council VOA. It puts into print all sorts of options and suggestions about how to organize your council.

12 CSVE and why it is critical
2015 Council Standards of Venturing Excellence Bronze (22 in CR) Silver (8 in CR) Gold (0 in CR) Heart of Ohio Buckskin Muskingum Valley Great Trail Ohio River Valley Simon Kenton More in CSVE in the next class session, but CSVE stands for the council standards of Venturing Excellence and is the guide national uses to gage quality Venturing programs in councils. Six of our councils achieved Bronze or Silver. Five of our councils didn’t turn in the form. We are after a 100% turn in rate this year.

Goal Setting and Time Management Project Management Mentoring NYLT / NAYLE / Kodiak Powder Horn Where Area 4 Training Conference (adults) University of Scouting (mostly adults, with youth courses) Area 4 Venturing Leadership and Planning Conference When you form a Council VOA and even if you have not yet, leadership training is essential. On the next slide we are advertising our Area Leadership and Planning Conference

14 $25 for a weekend that will help youth
Develop as council leaders Start or sustain a Venturing Officer Association Create one page plans for Program, Administration, & Communication, and Achieve Venturing Excellence in their Councils Help us achieve our goal of 3 to 4 youth attending from every council in Area 4 Deadline November 18 $25/$30
