BYOD in First Grade Parent Information

Why BYOD? We are jumping into the 21st century and integrating technology into our classroom as a learning tool! This will teach our students that devices are used for more than just games. Keep

What about controlling where my child goes?
There is a network dedicated just for the BYOD program. We have the stronger filters on our BYOD network than on our regular network. Parents can set restrictions on the device. Students will be expected to follow the permission agreement contract and SOAR at all times. Keep

What if I’m worried about damage or theft?
Please send your child’s device to school in a PROTECTIVE case. Only your child will use his or her device. Devices will be stored safely in the classroom when they are not being used. WCPSS and GHE teachers and staff are NOT responsible for lost, stolen or damaged devices. Parents should discuss the importance of personal responsibility with their child. Keep

What kinds of sites or apps can my child use?
Only school approved apps and websites may be used on a personal device. (A list of these is on the website under Student Links). Apps will not be downloaded at school, please download the apps listed in your packet. We know all of them may not work, download the ones that do! Students are expected to stay on task per the Student/Parent agreement. NO TEXTING or INSTANT MESSAGING is allowed - not even between parent and child. Brandom

How do I know what device to bring/buy?
Any type of device that is able to connect to the Internet (cell phone with call service turned off, tablet, iPod, iPad, laptop, Nook or eReader) The ideal device would allow students to access the internet, have a camera and have a battery life that would last the school day. Device must have a headphone jack, please send headphones with your child! Apple products work best with our system, however, they are not required. Van

When does this program start?
Students can bring devices starting September 19. All students must have turned in a signed permission slip before any devices are allowed on campus. Van

SOARing with BYOD As always, students are expected to SOAR with BYOD. Please review specific SOAR rules on the the BYOD permission form. If a child does not follow the SOAR rules, they will NOT be allowed to use their device. Nichols
