BYOD – Bring Your Own Device “Preparing 21st Century Students for Global Success” 5th Grade 2017 Sope Creek Elementary School

2 What is Byod? Bring Your Own Device
BYOD allows students who have personal technology devices to bring them to school to use them for educational purposes under the direction of a teacher or administrator. Digital learning - every student can access high quality and rigorous instruction. If students do not have a device, they will use the school’s technology.

3 Definition of “Device”
For purposes of BYOD, “Device” means privately owned wireless and/or portable electronic hand-held equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, iPads, iPhones, Android, Kindle, laptops, etc.

4 Internet Only the internet gateway provided by the school may be accessed while on campus. Personal internet connective devices such as cell phones cannot use outside network access.

5 Security and damages Responsibility to keep the device secure rests with the individual owner. The school district is not liable for any device stolen or damaged on campus. If a device is stolen or damaged, it will be handled through the administrative office similar to other personal artifacts that are impacted in similar situations. It is recommended that skins (decals) and other custom touches are used to help identify your device from others. Additionally, protective cases are helpful to prevent damage.

6 Student agreement The use of technology to provide educational material is privilege. Guidelines should be followed for continued use of devices. Students and parents/guardians participating in BYOD must follow the Student Code of Conduct, as well as all Board policies. Please see Parent/Student Agreement from for full list of terms students must agree to. Parent and student must sign and return the form prior to using own device.

7 Guidelines are posted in each classroom.
Parents and students have received a personal copy of the guidelines.
