4 Testimony- liberation at dachau
4. Henry Miklos says he remembers feeling like one of “the chosen ones.” Do you think this feeling was common among survivors? Yes, because there were so few survivors. How can a feeling like that carry with it tremendous responsibility in the minds of survivors? The survivors may feel like they need to do certain things in their life because they survived. They may also feel guilty for living while so many others died. 5. Why do you think David Abrams wanted to walk to his house rather than accept a ride there? Maybe he wanted to use his new freedom to do what he wanted. He wanted to show himself that he could do things on his own.

5 Read, Discuss, & respond with your group
Read about some other important ideas about liberation with your group. Then, discuss and respond to the two questions below. Your responses should have multiple parts. 1. What were some of the struggles facing Jews after liberation? 2. How did Allied troops deal with newly liberated Jews?

6 Discussion 1. What were some of the struggles facing Jews after liberation? Mental weakness: guilt, fear, loss, nightmares Nowhere to go Physical weakness, sickness, need for rehabilitation Sometimes no resources, such as travel money or food 2. How did Allied troops deal with newly liberated Jews? Depends: sometimes supplies, food, water, medical care was given quickly; sometimes not DP camps were temporary living areas for those without homes and money
